Professional Counseling Service
FSAWV’s Professional Counseling Service has provided individual, couples, and family counseling to meet the needs of the families of our community for more than three-quarters of a century. Our licensed professional social workers are credentialed for most major managed care organizations, and provide employer-sponsored counseling and post-trauma services under both local and national contracts. The Professional Counseling Service provides professional internship and residency opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students. Batterer’s Intervention Service Program
FSAWV’s The Batterer’s Intervention Service Program is an intensive and comprehensive 24-week program that works with men who batter or physically abuse their partner. The group meets once a week for a 2.5-hour session for 24 weeks. The program is based on the Duluth Model of Domestic Violence Intervention Programs. There are 8 themes that work to re-educate men on zero tolerance with regards to Domestic Violence. Themes include Power & Control, Mental & Physical Abuse, Respect & Communication, Accountability and Consequences. For more information call (570) 823-5144.

Anger Management Program
FSAWV’s Family Service Association of Wyoming Valley also offers an Anger Management program throughout the year. This 6-week program is designed for individuals and couples who have issues dealing anger in their relationship at work, at school, or with their family. This conflict resolution program meets once a week for 2 hours for six weeks. This cognitive educational program works to help participants better understand and improve their ability to communicate for problem solving, improving active listening skills, conflict resolution, accepting responsibility for ones own actions, power and control, logical and illogical consequences, understanding anger, problem solving, and support and understanding. Participants are given the tools necessary to take the change first attitude to alter negative behavior. For more information call (570) 823-5144.

Guardianship Services
FSAWV’s Guardianship Service enhances the quality of life and protects the interests of our most vulnerable adult and aged community members. Through the Guardianship Service, FSAWV provides substitute decision making in accordance with the Pennsylvania Guardianship Act on behalf of those individuals the Court has found incapable of acting on their own behalf. Friends of Family Service
The Friends of Family Service is a committee of the FSAWV Board of Directors. Its membership is comprised of active Board Members and community volunteers. The Friends of Family Service work to promote prevention activities that build upon the strength of our families. Supported through the proceeds of their Annual Fund Solicitation, The Friends of Family Service are an on-going sponsor of National Family Week, the Youth Talent Expo, and activities of Prevent Child Abuse Pennsylvania. Help Line
The Help Line Service is the primary information and referral resource for the residents and service providers of Luzerne and Wyoming Counties. A free service operating 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, our trained information and referral specialists link callers to the community resources that can address their needs. Help Line provides a single after-hours access point for our community’s social services. These services include mental health concerns, child abuse/neglect issues, transportation and emergency housing requests, resources for the elderly, programs for runaway youth, energy assistance, drug and alcohol problems, and the needs of the homeless. Help Line is V/TTY equipped. Help Line has a translator service available to assist non-English speaking callers from our community. Telephone Reassurance Program
The Telephone Reassurance Program is a specialized service of Help Line that delivers free telephone reassurance contact for adults and elderly. Telephone Reassurance Program eases the concern of friends and relatives who may find it difficult to maintain consistent, reliable contact. Telephone Reassurance Program calls each subscriber each day according to an agreed upon schedule. Should a subscriber fail to respond to the initial and second call, or if in responding the subscriber indicates that they are in distress, the Help Line staff arranges for an immediate response to the home. This is a free service to residents of Luzerne and Wyoming Counties. It is available beyond the two county area for a nominal fee. The individual may arrange the services directly, or have them arranged by a friend, relative, or their professional service provider. Project A.B.L.E.
Helps parents make a difference in their communities. This hands-on community education and awareness project of parents and children with developmental and acquired disabilities helps to clarify the misunderstandings and misconceptions others have of their children’s abilities. Community Involvement Network
The main objective of the Community Involvement Network is to encourage the development of a community that welcomes and values everyone.   The role of the network facilitator is to offer support and education for community groups interested in including individuals with disabilities or of diverse backgrounds.  The following are a few of the areas where Diana Francis, network facilitator, can offer support: education on disabilities and accessible meetings, education on diversity outreach, developing visions and mission statements.  Groups eligible for facilitator involvement include: civic organizations, religious groups, non-profit group, schools and anyone willing to open their group to individuals with disabilities or from diverse backgrounds is eligible to apply for assistance.  For information call (570) 459-6171.

Family Visitation Service (FVS)
FSAWV is initiating the Family Visitation Service program under a grant for the US Department of Justice.   The Family Visitation Service will create a program of supervised visitation of children with an estranged parent, as well as a secure location for child exchange between estranged parents.  FSAWV, in conjunction with the Luzerne County Office of Human Services and the Luzerne County Orphans Court, and in partnership with the Domestic Violence Service Center, will establish a Family Visitation Service to provide a means and facility to provide a safe opportunity for estranged parents and custodial parents to participate in the lives of their children. 

Community Outreach and Education Services
FSAWV’s Community Outreach and Education Services provides individuals and families with learning opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge to address the issues of marital, parenting, and family relationships. Community Outreach and Education Services operate collaboratively in a variety of community settings: schools, libraries, workplaces, churches, and other service agencies. Community Outreach and Education Services works with individuals, families, and their community to provide accessible human services in the more remote locations of the Wyoming Valley and throughout Wyoming County.
